Volunteering with Team Hope

Staff member doing volunteering work with a charity

Kind-hearted Merril Smith recently availed of our Community Volunteering Policy to support the incredible Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford.

A Systems & Payroll Analyst with our Team, Merril rolled up her sleeves to help bring smiles to children in need this Christmas.

She shared her experience of:

  • Collecting shoeboxes from drop-off centres like Dealz in Wexford town.
  • Checking and packing thoughtful gifts like clothes, toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children aged 2-14.
  • Sealing and preparing the festive parcels for shipping to some of the world’s poorest regions in Eastern Europe and Africa.

Last year, Wexford sent an incredible 6,579 shoeboxes to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Schools, volunteers, and fundraising events like jumble and cake sales have been key to this success.

Over 4,000 shoeboxes have been received in the county this year so far, with more than 2,000 still being processed by a dedicated team of volunteers.

“Being able to avail of a volunteer day is fantastic,” says Merril. “This was time well spent. I met amazing, hardworking people and heard inspiring stories. Behind every shoebox is a child who will feel joy, love, and hope this Christmas!”

In line with our 3X10X Positive Impact Charter, Odyssey Social Care is proud to support employees like Merril who give back and make a difference.
